It used to be that beards and golf didn't go together, right? Well it depends how far you go back. Here's a good story that explains:
It happened at a British Open at St. Andrews that the always clean shaven Arnold Palmer who played in an age when all players were clean shaven went so far as telling David Duval to lose his goatee. Palmer told Duval that golf and beards simply don't go together.  But Duval was ready and pointed to some photos on the wall. Palmer graciously withdrew his objection as he looked at the pics of past champions, Old Tom Morris, Young Tom Morris and Willie Parks.That's Old Tom Morris in the picture above - Open Champion 1861,1862,1864 and 1867.

Things have changed on the PGA Tour since Craig Stadler was on his own sporting a goatee. Lucas Glover, Ryan Moore, Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, and many more players have sported beards, mustaches and goatees on tour. It looks like the beards and golf are back.
